Life is so busy these days, where we are often juggling many different and competing priorities, rarely having a minute to ourselves, and feeling guilty because we think we are not doing anything well enough. We can struggle to find a few minutes to sit and reflect on what is important to us in life and what we want to attract into our life. Not only finding the time, but keeping focussed attention when we do, can also be a challenge! So how can we remedy this?
The below reflective tasks will help you get clear on your priorities so you can spend your time and energy on those things you enjoy most and that are most important to you. When we live our life in alignment with what we value, we generally feel more energised, happier and in flow.
- Write down a list of what you value – family, health, job, friends, money, travel, hobbies, self-care, meditation, sport etc.
- Now rate these values in order of importance to you, from one being the most important to ten being the least.
- Reflect on whether you are currently spending your time and energy on what you value most or least in life?
- How can you spend more time on those things you love and value the most? What needs to change? What action do you need to take? What might you have to stop doing?
- If it were your funeral, how would you like to be remembered? What would you like people to say about you? What do you want to be remembered for?
- If you did die tomorrow, what do you think people would actually say about you at your funeral? Is there a difference between what you think others would say and what you would like them to say and if so, what do you need to do differently so your ideal and real-life match?
- Write a letter to yourself in the future (5-10 years max). Be very specific and descriptive about what you are doing, who is in your life, what you are feeling and what is going on. This letter now becomes your road map to achieving your dream or ideal future life. What steps or even, one thing, you can do today towards achieving that dream?
